Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, the ace actress-presenter, snagged the industry merit gong at the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The 2022 AMVCA’s eight-day schedule of activities ended with an award night on Saturday.

Taking to the stage to accept her plaque, Ajai-Lycett described the honour as “a major surprise” to her.

“I’ve lived to carry this. This is a major surprise to me. I’ve been to places but there’s no place like home,” she said.

Ajai-Lycett had her acting debut in 1966 in Wole Soyinka’s two-act comedy ‘The Lion and the Jewel’.

She has also featured in other notable works such as the Nigerian movie ‘Oloibiri’.

Later, she became the pioneer editor of Africa Woman magazine, for Africans in the diaspora.

As an editor, she was a participant in the UN International Women’s Year.

At the 2022 AMVCA, the movies ‘Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story’ and ‘Amina’ came top with four plaques each.

In public voting categories, Stan Nze clinched ‘Best Actor in Drama’ and Osas Ighodaro the ‘Best Actress in Drama’.

Rogers Ofime had multiple wins in the categories ‘Best Television Series for ‘The Mystic River’, ‘Best Indigenous Language Movie’ (Hausa) for ‘Voiceless’, and ‘Best Africa Magic Original Comedy Series’ for ‘The Johnsons’.
